SOP FOR CALIBRATION OF GLASSWARES

1.0    OBJECTIVE:

To lay down a standard procedure for the calibration of  Glasswares.

  • SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable for calibration of Glasswares in Quality Control Laboratory

  • RESPONSIBILITY:

Officers / Executive – Quality Control shall be responsible for follow that procedure.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY:

Manager- Quality Control and Head QA shall be accountable for compliance of this SOP.

  • ATTACHMENTS:

         Calibration of Volumetric flasks                                                 Attachment-I

Calibration of Graduated pipette                                                         Attachment-I

Calibration of One mark pipette                                                          Attachment-I

Calibration of Burette                                                                           Attachment-I

  • PROCEDURE:
    • General:

6.1.1 Certified class “A” glassware does not required the calibration.

6.1.2 For validation only class “A” glassware shall be used for analysis.

6.1.3 Calibration shall be done for all class “B” type glassware.

  • Method of calibration:
    • Burettes :
      • Wash & rinse the burette with distilled water.
      • Place a clean & dry 100 ml beaker on the balance & tare it.
      • Fill the burette with distilled water temperature adjusted at 25 ± 1°C & adjust the level of the water to the zero mark while allowing the rest of the burette to become filled. Remove any air bubbles.
      • Dispense into the pre-tared beaker serial aliquots of water from the filled burette. Weigh the pre-tared beaker after the addition of every aliquots of water. Take minimum three reading calculate mean value Record the result in Format-01.

Calculation=Weight of water in ml = Weight of water, in gm

0.99602

Where, 0.99602 is the specific gravity of water at 25°C.

  • Transfer Pipettes :
    • Wash & rinse the transfer pipettes with distilled water.
    • Place a clean 100 ml beaker on the balance & tare. Fill the transfer pipette with distilled water, temperature maintained at 25 ± 1°C & adjust the level of the water to the zero mark while allowing the rest of the pipettes to become filled. Remove any air bubbles.
    • Dispense distilled water into the pre-tared beaker in a vertical position & then touch against the wall of the beaker. Weigh the pre-tared beaker after the addition of distilled water. Take minimum three reading & calculate mean value Record the results in Format-01.

Calculation= Weight of water, in ml =   Weight of water, in gm

0.99602

Where, 0.99602 is the specific gravity of water at 25°C

  • Volumetric Flask :

6.2.3.1Weigh the clean, dry, empty flask and tare the weight of flask.

  • Fill the clean flask with distilled water. Set the temperature at 25°C, Reweigh it. Take minimum three reading & calculate mean value

Calculation=Weight of water in ml = Weight of water in gm

0.99602

Where, 0.99602 is the specific gravity of water at 25°C
