SOP FOR RECEIPT, STORAGE & ISSUANCE OF CHEMICAL & GLASSWARE

  •     OBJECTIVE:

To lay down standard procedure for the Receipt, Storage and Issuance of Chemicals and Glassware.

  • SCOPE:

This SOP is applicable to Receipt, Storage and Issuance of Glassware and Laboratory Chemicals used in Quality Control Department at

  • RESPONSIBILITY:

         Officers / Executive – Quality Control shall be responsible for compliance of this SOP.

  • ACCOUNTABILITY:

Manager – Quality Control and Head QA shall be accountable for compliance of this SOP.

  • PROCEDURE:
    • INCOMING LABORATORY CHEMICALS:

6.1.1 On receipt of chemicals, check the items and quantities against Invoice / PO. Also check for the breakages and spillage, if any.

6.1.2 Attach the label on each container with information of Date of receipt, sign, opened on, use before and sign.

6.1.3 If items and quantities are satisfactory then it is entered in the respective Chemical   stock and usage record.

6.1.4 Unless otherwise indicated on the label or in the individual specification, Chemicals and reagents shall be discarded as per the following schedule after opening.

All reagents: Two years

Organic Solvents: Two years

HPLC grade solvents: One year

6.1.5 At the discretion of the laboratory responsible person, the expiry can be extended for one year if the  chemical/reagent appears to be in good condition.

6.1.6 On observation if any physical changes are noted than the reagent /solvent shall be discarded immediately with information to Manager-QC.

6.1.7 All the laboratory chemicals shall be issued on first come first out basis for analytical purpose.

6.1.8 Expired chemicals shall be identified and discarded by analytical chemist/laboratory assistant after informing to department in charge.

6.1.9 Shelf life shall be specified after opening of reagent bottles.

6.1.10  Usage period shall not exceed the shelf life mentioned by the manufacturer if any.

6.2    STORAGE LABORATORY CHEMICALS:

6.2.1 The chemicals should be stored at specified temperature. Heavy metal compounds and highly toxic compounds shall be stored in the designated area in quality control laboratory.

6.2.2 Hazardous chemicals should be stored separately taking all safety precautions as per their material safety data sheet (MSDS).

6.2.3 Temperature sensitive Chemicals and reagents shall be stored in refrigerator or at appropriate temperature as per recommendations of manufacturer.

6.3    INCOMING GLASSWARE’S / MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:

6.3.1 On receipt of glassware/other items, check the items and quantities against Invoice / PO. Also check for the breakages, if any.

6.3.2 Check the volumetric glassware of class A for certificate of calibration along with each item.

6.3.3 If items and quantities are satisfactory then it is entered in the respective stock and usage record .

6.4    STORAGE GLASSWARE’S / MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

6.4.1 Arrange the glassware in the glassware store in the respective rack.

6.4.2 At the time of issuance make the entry in respective stock and usage record. Check the certificate of calibration before issuance.

6.4.3 Record the breakage of glasswares if any properly.
